Tim the Tunna....advice needed

Hey Tim, you know that kid that comes around sometimes to our GTG at D&D with the Silver Arrow VR6 Jetta TipTronic? Well he has a problem with his ride. Actually he did a complete tranny swap and got a 6 speed installed. I directed him your way and told him to call the shop for some advice or even to get some work done. He sent me a PM on Vortex asking for some help.

Here's his problem.

pnmsh5: hey man its nakul with the vr6 tranny swap. ok the problem i have is lil weird. i got the tranny swap.. the tranny is perfectly fine. but the mechanic took 2 months to do it and was telling me that i need to leave the car for few more days so he can program my car. but i have school so i took it. the car is ruinning perfectly fine. but the problems im havin are ..
1. my speedometer doesnt work. my rpm gauge does but not the speed gauge. (the guy said he changed the sensor)
2. my revers lights dont go on wen i reverse.(but the reverse works fins)
3. my fuel gauges fluctuates.
4. my check engine light and ase light are on(the guy said its cauz he havent program my ecu)
5. my door lock dont work.. well the one when you get in the car and drive.. it automatcailly locks itself.. that one doesnt work. but the regular lock and alarm work.
6.and last my middle digital cluster doesnt work.. like the miles per gallon or the temp.(but like when i have no selt belt or the door is open .. those light work).
and all these problems wernt there befor the tranny swap. i all the problems i have are related to tranny sway.. i think. the guy said he had trouble progrming the ecu. i think he he full off sh*t. can you please help me. ask your friends if any one know how to program the ecu or atlaest give me sum advice. cauz i spent 3500 dollars on the tranny swap and i got stuck with the crook mechanic. and took really long. ask your friends.. if they cant help me. please

RedGLIBaron: WOw.....sorry that you had to go through that man, BUT I can only direct you to Driversport for advice. This shop handles most of the crews work on their cars including mine. I can give you the number and you can explain to them what your deal is. You can ask for either Tim or Greg. They should be able to help you out and/or maybe ask you to take a ride out to Mahopac where the shop is located. You would've been better off selling your ride when it was an Auto then add $3500 and get urself a 6 speed. Anyhow, here's the info...driversport inc.

Another note.....the ECU has to know what tranny it has in order to make the car run right. It may run right now but like you said the reverse lights doesn't know the car is actually in reverse when in reverse. Definitely an ECU issue there or possible sensor. Remember...ECU is the brain...its gotta know what it's working with. Good luck with that and I'll run this by the rest of the crew. You gotta call Driversport for the right answers you need.

wow That needs the ecu to be recoded for 6spd the cluster to be recoded for 6spd and impulse count for correct speedo then the rewire the revevse light switch and netral saftey switch I am supprized it cranked. and all this is just off the top of my head. I know this guy called and we told him t come to the shop, but he no show up.
